Age Spot Remover
What’s the most safe, effective, pain free age spot remover?
Many men and women develop brown spots on their skin. While these blotches are most often associated with aging, the actual cause is the over development of melanin deep within the skin, and over active melanin production can come from a variety of sources.
While overexposure to the sun, or more specifically sunlight’s uva and uvb rays are the most common contributing factor to the development of age spots, liver spots and sun spots, there are a number of other factors that are common in many cases, including hormonal changes brought on by pregnancy or birth control treatments.
While often times age spots are harmless, they are often viewed as undesirable from a strictly cosmetic standpoint and men and women undergo a variety of treatments in an attempt to diminish, vanish, lighten, brighten, or even remove their sun spots entirely.
Age Spot Removal Creams
Vanishing creams, bleaching creams and fade creams have been around for decades, as mostly women used topical creams in an attempt to diminish the unsightly brown, gray, or black discolorations on the back of hands, face, neck and shoulders. While it’s often hard for a cream or lotion to penetrate deeply enough under the dermis to be considered an effective age spot remover, different formulations have been improved over time and in some cases can deliver an effective result.
Microdermabrasion
Microdermabrasion, also known as ‘microderm’ is a cosmetic procedure in which the outer layer of skin, presumably made up of dead skin cells in strippped away by a light abrasive. Day spas, dermatologists, and medical spas use this technique to remove sun damaged skin and remove, diminish or lessen the scars or dark spots on patient’s skin – age spot removal.
The term dermabrasion is the more harsh medical procedure which needs general or light anesthesia. Microdermabrasion is not very painful and requires no anesthetic. Zinc or aluminum oxide crystals, or fine organic particles are used. While there is very little evidence that microdermabrasion stimulates collagen formation
Chemical Peels
Chemical peels are used in attempt to remove the top layers of dermis in an attempt to stimulate the growth of new tissue underneath. Often times, once the top few layers of skin are removed, treatments for the age spot are better able to penetrate to the deeper levels of the skin where melanin production takes place and age spots, sun spots and liver spots are formed.
Laser Treatment
Lasers are being used in many aspects of dermatology these days. Dermatologist are also using lasers for the dimishment of spots on the skin subject to hyperpigmentation or melasma (also known as the mask of pregnancy) – usually the result of overactive melanin production. The light penetrates the skin and attacks the site the spot is formed.
