Are Age Spots Dangerous?

Age spots, in general, are not considered dangerous.

True agespots, sunspots or liver spots are created from an overabundance of melanin in the deeper layers of skin.

While it’s true that melanin deposits can be left under the skin as a response to more dangerous conditions which have induced inflammatory responses in the skin, the more typical cause of age spots is an over exposure to the sun for long periods of time (years).

While over exposure to the sun over long periods of time can produce other undesirable side effects like wrinkling, and of course the more dangerous carcinoma or skin cancer, dark brown or grey or black spots that are have not created a raise in the skin (that lie flat with the surface of the skin) are generally not considered dangerous.

Of course, medical professionals, doctors, dermatologists and estheticians will recommend that if you have blemishes on your skin that are worrying you you should have them inspected by a medical professional and a biopsy done on them if necessary.
